On Friday, March 27, 2026, I will present my research titled “Using Inherent Visual Biases as a Tool for Visual Literacy: The Case of the ‘Archive Effect’” at the 2nd International Scientific Conference on Audiovisual & Film Literacy, organized by the Chania Film Festival in Crete.

My presentation examines the concept of the archive effect, the tendency of viewers to perceive certain images as historical evidence simply because of their visual qualities, and considers how this phenomenon can be used pedagogically. By identifying and discussing the visual biases embedded in archival aesthetics, the research proposes methods for strengthening visual literacy, encouraging audiences to question the apparent authority of images and to develop a more critical relationship with audiovisual material.
